Hey guys, meant to post the other day but kept forgetting. Just a few questions really, being the incredibly talkative guy I am at tafe I would probably not need to ask if I'd just spoken to you but anyway.
Do we have any concept art completed for the main characters yet? My understanding was they were pretty much done and was hoping to have a glance so I can have a good idea of the style of the characters. I've almost finished a male base mesh which I'm hoping to have done this weekend so I can take it into Mudbox and start on some generic characters for crowd or street shots. I'll dump it on the share drive/host it for download when it's done.
Is the storyboard going to be a group thing or fall onto Kate? Just after an idea of what sorta stuff we're doing animation wise, I have a few ideas but don't know whether to sketch/write em up if it's already being worked on. Considering that Alan told us most of the work we're doing in level design doesn't apply to us I chose to model London Bridge for his assignment in the hopes it would prove useful to us.
I heard that we're only doing a 2minute short? Is this right? I was thinking we were going to do 5-10mins or something. I was talking to Josh and it seemed like we may be thinking much bigger project than planned. Will we be finding people for voice work at all? I dunno if the setting of England would make that a bit difficult.
Sorry if that stuff is already public knowledge, just after a better understanding.
Cheers, Tom
I have done a lot of the sketches of the main characters and I've almost fished jack's basic mesh, I'll show you them on Monday if your in if not I'll probably post them on here in the next few days.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently working on the storyboard/scriptd and I'll show you guys what I've got so far on Monday.
If you have ideas for the animation I'd really like to discuss them with you and others on Monday or you can post them up here if you like.
The animation is 2 to 5 minutes long, I'm think of adding optional scenes to the storyboard so if where working quite quickly we can
add more detail to the story.
As of yet the London bridge isn't featured but it could possibly be used in the back drop.
There won't be that much voice acting at all, I'm not even sure yet if I'm gonna use dialog.
Also I have some music friends that I'm hoping will do the score.
If you still in the dark about anything feel free to post back and hopefully I can clear it up.
Ok so some of these I thought up with not much idea of style etc but given what You said earlier some thought and having the video as an example I think some of them may still work. I dunno, I'll throw them out there anyway.
ReplyDeleteI've been taking the approach of thinking that the animation needs to tell a story which could still work without dialog, I was thinking voiceovers (story told by jack) but then, I don't know anyone with a distinguishable, rich English accent but anyway.
I was thinking the animation could open with a flash of a slowmotion shot of soldiers storming a field in a firefight to show jacks leg being wounded and then flash to him in the hospital with the doctor telling him he's going home and having a purple heart pinned on him (I think English troops were awarded that too) then the VoiceOver could explain what he did after, like the bomb squad thing and then cut to the cat scene as he explains that there's the underground war thing too.
Then other ideas were a shot of him in an underground tube station 'hunting' some shadow dwellers.
Another was a scene where he and the lady(sorry haven't got PDF to refer to names) were running down a street towards the scientists guys house during a bombing with buildings exploding/collapsing maybe with dwellers chasing them. And then like an over the shoulder shot of the scientist looking through the window as they're coming.
Yeaaa, based on what you've said and shown they may come across as a bit too action based and draw away from the 'elegant' style you're looking for.
But there they are anyways.
Cheers, Tom
I like the sound of some of the actions scenes. At the moment I have a being and ending to the animation but no middle/climax, I like the sound of jack hunting them down in the subway, if your upto it you can sketch out a few frames roughly of how you imagine them to plan out. Also in comment to your other post you can work on background characters, I'll put you don for it on the task sheet.
ReplyDeleteAlso the PDF is on google doc's to here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xlKhNbbmpsfsoF7RHMAw8ePE8KGnvrFenJyGSJ-N2jA/edit?hl=en&authkey=CKSntvkI
